Garage Shelves
Plastic Shelving For Home, Garden Shed and Garage
Most modern homes probably have shelves made out of more than one material. Whereas, once upon a time, all home shelves were made from wood, you can expect to find shelving in a home made from wood, metal, or various types of plastic. Some homes will even have all three materials in use for shelves, either in the house or out in the garage or garden shed. All three have their place as part of the home décor and for practical storage.
Each of the three materials also has many variations. Plastic shelving, for example, comes in numerous types of plastic such as PVC, vinyl, polypropylene, and variations thereof, as well as cheaper plastics that might be used in cheap shoe racks from the local discount store. You know, the ones that collapse at the sight of a large boot!
Many of the storage needs of a modern home require sturdy shelving, so cheap, lightweight plastics need to be used with care. They can also be a false economy. If you are looking for reliable storage, with shelves that bear a bit of weight, then the more robust types of plastics are best used. You can also find racks of shelves made from steel frames with a plastic coating, and these are made with robustness in mind. What you buy will depend on what you want to store and where, plus the budget of course. Think carefully before choosing. There is no point buying cheap lightweight plastic shelving for storing heavy items that will cause it to collapse.
You can use plastic shelving just about anywhere in the home, and it need not look cheap and tacky. Far from it, some of the bathroom shelving racks are made to look quite ornate, despite their plastic finish. Modern plastic shelves are also popular in the kitchen, along with chrome shelves, where they are easy to clean and help keep the kitchen in hygienic state.
It is perhaps outside, though, that the shelf made from plastic really comes into its own. Not just shelves, either, as plastics such as resin are now commonly used for storage sheds, portable sheds, and benches that double as storage units. Outside you can also find plenty of vinyl or resin locker style sheds, both horizontal and vertical, which naturally utilize shelving made from the same plastic as the body.
The family garage is another place where you should consider plastic as a material of choice. In this case, it is best to consider racks that are steel framed, with either chrome shelving or a metal covered with a low maintenance plastic. Whatever you choose, they must be robust, along with their brackets, as we do tend to store some rather heavy tools, bikes and other things in the garage!
